PEARL LILLIAN

  Hi, my name is Pearl! At a very young age, I came across the “Top Model” notepads filled with outlines of models for kids to draw on to get an innocent and playful introduction to fashion design. The passion and joy towards drawing the designs brought me the inspiration to draw almost every day. 

As I got older, I began talking to mum about what I should do with my life. I started asking many and I mean MANY questions about Fashion Designers - what they do and how to become one. 

I knew then and there that I wanted to be a fashion designer. With practice my designs became more refined and my unique style emerged. I would describe my trade-mark style to be: Innovative, timeless, unique, grandiose, intricate, sweet, and alluring, with a touch of girly, an oomph of cool-factor, and punch of that one very fly person. Last but not least, I am proud of how my european heritage shows strongly in the way I design and bring my ideas to life. 

I still remember the first sewing lesson I had - making pillows with a private sewing teacher who lived very far away from our house. I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing. All I know is how proud and happy I was at the end of the day when I had accomplished my task and made my first project. I am frankly extremely thankful towards my mama who ABSOLUTELY went out of her way to help me get what I want and head more and more in the direction of my dreams. 

All in all, I went from making pillows to little zip bags followed by the most basic skirts. 

I did some short courses along the way.  I then asked one of the sewing teachers I connected to through sewing at a Neighbourhood House to give me private lessons . So, we started doing regular sewing classes at my house for a few good years. 

My first actual "piece of clothing" project that I can remember making with her was my 'Yasmin Set's', then my 'Hunny Set's' and so on continued the experimentations.

My designs got more complicated as I progressed and that's when I found my new teacher who became a very good friend. 

I will end it here leaving you with my best intentions of being not only one of the most interesting designers but also of helping the world, the people, and animals by being sustainable, fair-trade and ethical!
